Flyers Dog & Disc Club |
2007 was yet another fantastic year for the Yankee Flyers Dog and Disc Club (YFDDC)! In our ninth year of existence, the YFDDC was instrumental in coordinating and running numerous competitions including two national qualifiers, the Flying Disc Dog Open (FDDO) and U.S. Disc Dog Nationals (USDDN). We were the first club ever to host the prestigious FDDO event independently. This was accomplished with the help of, two additional groups; the Mid Atlantic Disc Dogs (MADDogs) and New England Disc Dog (NEDDC) disc dog clubs. Additionally we host and co-host many local Skyhoundz Championships, DiscDogathons and other fun competitions annually.
YFDDC club members qualified and competed in both the Skyhoundz World Championship and the USDDN National and International Championships. Our club placed a very close 1st runner-up in Flying Disc Dog Open Club Championship in 2007! We typically feature three divisions in both our major competitions; “Novice”, “Women” and “Men”.
We take great pride in our outreach programs such as play days for novice players and their dogs, demonstrations and partnering with other clubs to bring excellent opportunities to disc doggers of all levels in our area. YFDDC strives to bring the MidAtlantic and Northeast Clubs together to share talents, learning experiences and ideas. In 2007 This year the highly successful Can-Am weekend grew by an additional club and 2008 will add two more clubs bringing the total number of participating clubs up to 6. This kind of event is unprecedented in the disc dog world. YFDDC’s demonstration program continues to bring excellent talent to non-profit organizations as well as other large venues throughout the Northeast. This club feels that outreach programs like this are very important in that they promote healthy interaction with dogs and assist owners and prospective owners in offering additional positive ways to play with their furry blurs of motion! Our members have demonstrated their talent at both local and nationwide events.
